I oppose the Canyons District Bond Proposition that will be on Tuesday’s ballot in my area. From the district’s web site, we learn that the bond is intended to fund these projects:
- Key Purpose: forward the Board’s goal that all students graduate from high school ready for college and careers … [by moving] ninth-graders into high schools to better focus on career- and college-readiness. . . .
- Build a new high school in Draper.
- Upgrade 2 other high schools
- Key Purpose: fund renovations and rebuilds needed to bring schools to modern seismic and technology standards and to create environments that better inspire learning, enrichment, and student success.
- Rebuild or Renovate: Midvale Elementary, Butler Elementary, Butler Middle School, Midvale Middle School, Mount Jordan Middle School, an elementary (to be determined) in the White City area,
- Address seismic issues at Sandy Elementary,
- Enclose classrooms and install air conditioning at Albion, Crescent View and Indian Hills middle schools.
